Church Planting and South Africa

Jesus loves the church, and because He loves the church, we love the church. We are giving our lives to fight for her destiny. After decades of serving in both parachurch and local church contexts, our commitment has only grown stronger for the local church. We believe in the beauty, the calling, and the purpose of the church, and we feel compelled to invest ourselves in her formation, her health, and her future through the work of strengthening and planting churches.

We also recognize that God Himself is disrupting and disorienting the church in this hour. He is exposing sin, correcting unhealthy practices, and calling us back to simplicity, purity, humility, and truth. With love, sobriety, and genuine humility, we want to participate in this work of renewal, fighting not against the church but for the destiny Jesus has always had for His people.

Where

We are relocating to South Africa for a season, specifically to Potchefstroom, to support Fire and Fragrance in the planting of a church that plants churches. We are deeply aligned with who they are as a community, their devotion to prayer, their love for missions, and their commitment to healthy expressions of church life rooted in obedience to Jesus.

Fire and Fragrance is in a meaningful season of transition, moving from being solely a missions base to planting a church that actively sends and sustains church planting. We are honored to walk alongside them in this process, contributing from a place of prayer, discernment, and long-term investment rather than urgency or expansion.

Our own history is shaped by the nations, the church, and prayer. These threads have formed our lives and continue to guide our calling. This season in South Africa is both a continuation of that journey and a refining of it, learning, listening, and building with humility. As we walk this road, we do so with openness toward the future. We hold the possibility of returning to the United States to plant a church, or to serve within the leadership of a church, committed to laboring for the fullness of Jesus’ vision for His church. Wherever we are, our desire is the same: to serve faithfully, love deeply, and participate in what God is restoring.
